About

"Coral Portal" is an immersive digital artwork, meticulously designed by Miami-based artist, Lauren Shapiro. It features a 3D scanned underwater landscape, a visual documentation of Carysfort Reef in the Florida Keys, one of the seven pivotal reefs undergoing rejuvenation under the ambitious Mission Iconic Reefs project.

This groundbreaking artwork spotlights Staghorn coral, a vulnerable species integral to the reef's ecosystem. It presents a 360-degree visualization, employing advanced photogrammetry techniques, to digitally archive the corals and their current state, thereby stressing the vital need for environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.

"Coral Portal" serves a dual purpose: a visually captivating work of art and a compelling environmental awareness tool. It aims to amplify the narrative around human impact on coral reefs, advocating for their urgent restoration. The artwork resonates with eco-conscious art enthusiasts, marine conservationists, and individuals passionate about environmental preservation.
